Bought a Mede8er 400X Mini 3 days ago, because my Playon 2 HD mini was up to par with the font quality of the subtitles.

This new MED400X mini is really a blast when it comes to usability and speed.

However Wink

The old v3 firmware had relatively nice looking subtitles for the two movies or so I checked. I then found an unsupported movie and decided to immediately try v4.0.4 firmware.

All is well, the unsupported movie now plays... but .. what happened to the font of the subtitles? They're quite horrible now, even worse to be honest than the Playon2 HD mini.

I'm beginning to thing subtitle font quality is an afterthought because many people don't use subtitles
Or maybe I like my subtitles smooth buth crisp Smiley

I have tried putting a font.ttf on an USB stick, it get recognized but selecting it does not work (tried Vera.ttf and DejaVuSans.ttf).

To make my point clear, here are two images, hosted on my own server due to size, showing the difference between the subtitle on my MED400X mini with 4.0.4 firmware and same subtitle projected by VLC, to signify it's really a problem of the MED400X and not some other connection or receiver inbetween.

(both +/- 500Kb)

Hope someone can help me fix it if it's something I can do, or acknowledge it and hopefully push for a new firmware to fix it.

Thanks!

Tried a downgrade to 3.0.5.

Font quality is markedly different, though not really 'better'. There is some anti-aliasing on 3.0.5 (grays) which aren't even there on 4.0.4.

Still weird there is no mention anywhere and nobody here seems to acknowledge or invalidate the problem.

So even if you have nice subtitles, please mention it and include your player model so I/we know a bit more Smiley

What kind of subs are you talking about, there are different types.

External .srt .sub
Or internal embedded in DVD or BDMV?

For me it's with any subtitle, though quality differs.

SRT and embedded in mkv are a tiny bit better than the a DVD ISO, but they're still quite bad.

What I don't understand, is that not many more people are complaining about this. This makes me wonder whether I'm a nitpicker or whether I'm doing something wrong. But there's not much you can do to the font yourself. I've made it bigger, changed color, changed encoding (should do anything to how it looks) and even tried putting Deja Vu Sans as font.ttf on and USB stick (and select it in the menu, but that didn't seem to do anything visually, the font didn't seem to get loaded.

Please if you're reading this and have or have not got this problem, please respond, I'm also interested whether it's me, it's the mede8er, or something magically in between.

Thanks! Smiley

POOR SUBTITLE READABILITY is one of the first disappointments with my new MED400X. Bought it couple of days ago and was also surprised that nobody reported this as SERIOUS lack of functionality.

I have tried all the colors and sizes, and it's not good. If the subtitle is displayed on black background (when image is cropped to less than full screen size), then there is no problem. But with full size videos, where subtitles are displayed over images, the readability is REALLY POOR.

BTW, I'm using latest firmware update (4.0.4). Did not try to use 3.x which I got originally and will not try to use it since I don't see the point of using older versions.

MEDE8ER crew should FIX this without hesitation.

If you guys could post some pictures of what you mean with bad quality we can do some compare.....
And please also state what subs you are using when posting a picture:
- internal DVD
- internal BlueRay
- external SRT
- external Sub
etc.

And type of TV used (Brand and type).
And used Video settings in mede8er video setup.

Dear friends,
please try to fix the problem with srt subtitles, and others subtitles. The same problem was reported in other topics:

Thank you.

Those pictures are made not on 4.0.4 firmware but older.

If we want to be able to get a good impression what we are talking about (as only a few are complaining about subs not white enought etc), I will repeat my suggestion:

And don't make some zoomed picture but just a picture how you would watch a movie, and that is not 10 cm from the screen..... Normally you sit farther away from a tv screen than from a computer monitor.

Is my question so difficult?
Can you make a picture of what you see on your TV screen when your mede8er plays with subtitles.
Then we can compare....

As only a few are complaining there must be some difference....
