Here's the detail:
o Go to Media Library > Network > 'My Shortcut' o Press MENU on the Remote & select ADD; o Select DETAIL (on the bottom right-hand corner of the dialogue box) o Type in a LABEL for the shortcut o Type in the USER NAME o Type in the PASSWORD o Type in the DOMAIN / WORKGROUP o Type in the SERVER (PC) NAME o Type in the IP ADDRESS
What user-id / pass word and what ip-adress do i use here?

The IP addy of your server with the files you want to add the shortcut to. User/pass has to be to a valid account on the server that has access to the files in question.

Hi Folks,
I have a problem making a shortcut to my files. The problem is that I can't use slashes to go to the next folder, they are blocked.
Is there someone that knows how to solve this?
Thanks!
Ron

Hi Ron,
You can only make a shortcut to a share - at this point one cannot create an entire shortcut path - slashes are disabled.

Hi Mark,
Guest at most pc's is turned off. (or should be)
You can make a new account like [mede8er] with a password. On the PC-shares you can set the permissions.
At fristtime connect from m8r add the pc-hares to m8r-shares. m8r remembers the credentials for next time

First post so please be gentle... I have set up a shortcut to my nas and can see it and play files from it using the shortcut method - but for the life of me I can't get anything from the shortcut onto the video wall - the only way I can do this is to transfer the files onto the HDD in my 500x but they take an age to do (sometimes all night). Also (slightly off topic), why does it take 4 or five times longer to rip a dvd to the HDD in my 500x than it does to rip the same film to my nas...? If it didn't, I would rip directly to the HDD and bypass the nas altogether...

When you go to the shortcut link and then enter it, you will see the name of your shared nas volume. You cannot map this to the videowall. Only folders BELOW this volume name can be linked. So e.g make folders on that volume called Thriller, Animation etc. Place your movies in subfolders of those genre folders, every movie in a separate folder. Now make a shortcut link to the videowall by putting the cursor on one of those genre folders (e.g. Thriller) and selecting the videowall icon.

Thanks for that - I think I've completley set my network up wrong in the first instance... I'm using a Seagate GoFlex Home NAS and when I add that to my shortcuts, it drops down to show the backup, personal and public drives...when I click on the public drive I can see and play the files on it - but can't get them to attach to the video wall - I get the message "NOT AVAILABLE" at the bottom of the screen.

Have you tried to setup a network shotcut in the shortcut menu? By pressing menu, filling in ip and logon? If you are using no user names you might try Everyone or Guest as username and leave password blank. Save this shortcut.
Then browse to your nas by entering this made networks shortcut and try to make a shortcut on a folder. Then check on the video wall if it still gives the same error.

Thanks for your help but I think I sussed it in between you and I posting...I hadn't switched on "FTP" on the mede8er - just tried it and was able to get something from my NAS onto the video wall and connect to it - even though it was an empty folder. The video wall is important to me as without it, in a family of five, I'll be the only person who uses it and the main aim (to get rid of the 400 odd DVD boxes out of the living space) would not be achieved...
