Hi all,
I have installed the new firmware and it's great. It was stable, I didn't loose any functionality but I did gain some nice functionality. The screen size calibration can be seen on the video posted in the other section of the forum. It lets you set your exact screen size. This is especially usefull when you start using the new Zoom functionality.
At first I couldn’t understand how the zoom function worked because nothing was happening when I was watching a 16:9 video. But as soon as I loaded my old Futurama (4:3) episodes up I realised how it worked. It basically fits the picture to you X or Y without streching. You do loose a little of the top and bottom when zooming 4:3 and a little off the sides when zooming video with a ratio higer than 16:9, but it's not the end of the world. This is now one of my favorite features of the player. This is the best executed zoom functionality I’ve ever come across. Even my wife loves it and she doesn’t get excited about these kinds of things.
One problem however was that the first time I pressed the zoom button the unit reset itself. I couldn’t replicate this though, and I'm not entirely sure it had anything to do with the zoom function. I'd apreciate finding out if this happend to any other users.
I didn’t test the NFS client because my mede8er isn’t hooked up to my network yet. I'm waiting for the Wi-Fi dongle.
Not showing the drive letter of the internal HDD when there is only one partition is great. this is something I’d been hoping for. I'd like it if the same thing was implemented for USB is only one drive was installed, and if more than one is installed the drive lable should be shown, but I suposse that should go in the improvements tread.
No problem with the config save and restore, I wonder where the files are saved?
I was wondering why the trash can was removed from the file manager until I found out that you can delete files from the media library. I tested this and it worked fine.
Anyway, I'm very happy with the upgrade, it was painless and added some nifty functionality.
Well done Sanji.

The config file is saved to the USB stick -- ie Mede8er.cfg

Cool, if something weird happens and an emergency recovery is necessary does the recovery automatically upload the saved config?

Just updated and worked like a charm Changes are good and one shortage it wil be nice in the file managment side that it provides you with information on how much Hard drive space is availlable on the internal and exsternal drives.

The saved configuration settings will have to be restored manually after the installation, from the setup menu. The restore settings procedure is not automated at this time. Insert the USB drive that you backed your settings up onto and initiate the restore procedure.
FYI - The emergency recovery procedure is initiated by holding in the POWER button for about 10 seconds with firmware on USB storage.
EDIT: sorry - 10 seconds

How is the save and restore config intended to be used?
The one that would make most sense to me would be if the unit is moved between to monitors frequently it would alow the user to switch between optimal settings. But if this is the case two or more settings file would be required. Also this should be saved to the mede8er special partitions and the user can be given a choice of which config to restore.

This backup and restore functionality was intended more as a backup of your personalised settings between firmware upgrades.
Example - should someone have little networking knowledge or specifics in respect of how their Mede8er should be configured, then they can create such a backup file on a USB drive and in the event of an upgrade, they need only run the RESTORE to get their personalised shortcuts, network, A/V settings, etc back without having to call in a specialist.
Other than this, it just makes life simpler rather than having to manually recapture your configuration - for networking experts and A/V enthusiasts alike...

I had to flash again and dowgrade to V.1.1 and the alowed me to create my directorys in the root C: then fashed again to upgrade to 1.2 as i like the new zoom faciltys.
