Here is an idea...won't one of your brilliant members out there develop an iPad/iPhone app to control your mede8er over the wireless? Much like Remote for your iTunes library? Come one....you know you want to... ;-)

If you mean to use the iPhone instead of the supplied Mede8er remote control.....why?

Becuase if you have one it has the ability to be a far better remote than  any universal remote. All those wanting to play  audio  could browse their med500 files without having to have the Tv on.

Support for Iphone control of devices is spreading , as if the iphone is the phone to get. The reality is it only has 25% of the smart phone market. What's really needed is a universal smart phone standard which  will  work with any smartphone. By that I mean any non apple device becuase Apple must be happy with the current "Apple only world" that's currently supported.

Have you ever used the iPad remote capabilities? Maybe not, seeing that you ask the question above.

Mine is just a suggestion..use it...don't use it.

ALso on a similar vein, to use the Mede8er in conjunction with Control4 would be great. I am wanting to instal a C4 system at home but the downside is that it won't talk to the Mede8er.

I think it not a bad idea to use not only the standard RC. A WIFi system would be great and than not only for iPad or iPhone user, but for all wifi users. The modified FW Shizzl released for FW3.0.4 is a great example of this (http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,2544.0.html). I'm still hoping the "Shizzl version" of FW 4 and hopefully also a Med8er release will also contain the remote browser, so, for just playing music, you don't have to turn the tv.
In this way you can use you iPhone, Android phone, laptop, the good old fashioned PDA etc as a remote. A think this will be much more friendly for all Mede8er users and not just the apple users.

I too think a simple web control interface is the anwser for everything. Don't loose time with a smartphone app.

there exists an all-purpose remote control app for android named andromote, which operates on the basis of the UPNP protocol. unfortunately, Mede8er does not implement the required parts of the UPnP spec, namely the renderer part. If it did, andromote could be used to browse the media content from any UPnP media server in the network, and have the media rendered through mede8er. Browsing can be done on any android device without the need for a TV.

A list of devices that can currently be controlled through andromote is available at http://www.andromote.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=56. Mede8ter is not among them.

A web-based remote control is IMO not comparable with the above, as it simply mimics the old-time IR type remote through a different channel. Technology from the last milennium.

Such an iPhone app, in fact more than one, already exists, for example, "plugplayer".

As csell points out, mede8er, along with most other players, does not implement a DLNA renderer. If it did, the server component would also need to be present.

One could install a server, for example, "MediaTomb", onto mede8er, & view mede8er's files from any web browser, including a dedicated smartphone app, but again, the renderer is really required to allow full external control, that is, to "connect"  mede8er's music files to mede8er's own audio output.

A crude approach for the present is to place music files into an "autoplay" folder, which then doesn't need a TV to "monitor" the audio so long as an alternative to HDMI audio output is used.

Hey Guys :
Seagate's GoFlex TV and FreeAgent Theater+ HD media players get iPhone, iPad and iPod remote control app

Too busy to fiddle with another remote while your iPod touch / iPad / iPhone is already cozily tucked between your arm and chest? Seagate hears you, and it's just pushed out a new app that'll transform its bundled remotes into fantastic doorstops for those that adore iOS. The TV Remote app enables any new iOS device to control the functions of Seagate's GoFlex TV and FreeAgent Theater+ HD media players, and since it relies on WiFi, you need not worry over line-of-sight considerations. You'll also be able to use iOS' keyboard to input test into search fields on YouTube, Netflix and Pandora (just to name a few), and users will gain the ability to surf through entire media library (provided you've got an HDD connected to your media player) right on your iDevice. Hit the source link to get the download going, but make sure you update the firmware on your box before giving it a go.

Why would you need a Med? Creative are already making Ipad type devices which stream media to speakers and TV. An Ipad has more codec and processing power than the Med.

I have 2 iPads: only 2 or 3 containers/codecs are supported, max 64 GB space for movie/pic/music,... everyone needs a mede8er!

I would imagine an iPad Mede8er control app (new income for you guys!!!  Grin ), where you can scroll the medialibrary on the iPad just as you do with the remote. When you touch a cover (folder.jpg) the iPad would load the movie details (about.jpg) and then you can comfortably read the synopsis on your sofa without squeesing your eyes reading it on the TV screen...

All connected via WIFI (dongle to iPad).

Just my 2.99 cents.
