Hi,

I had and still have difficulties installing the M8 with internal harddisk. I have followed all the instuctions according to the latest working instruction in Dutch, but the system still comes back with the message "logon mislukt". The operating system on my laptop is Windows 7 and there is a wireless network installed. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I saw some messages from people that Windows Live would give simular kind of issues. Just use search to find those posts.

Normally with the Windows 7 instructions in my Beginners Guide it should work.
Check if you not overlooked something, firewall blocking maybe?

Or maybe also the Windows Live issue as others have seen causing this trouble.

Hi,

I have tried again to make it work by checking all and redoing some items in the working instruction. As far as I can judge I've done it all correctly so I got a bit disappointed that the issue still exists: logon failed. The only thing I did not do is closing the security package.

Are there more suggestions?

Regards

Have you read this thread?
Maybe same kind of root cause for you?

Hi, I have removed and installed W Live Essentials, still no success. I have entered the mede8er account (as suggested in the working instruction), I have entered my email account and I have entered my network account, nothing works. Any options left except returning the equipment to the supplier?

Did you try to disable your firewall software temporary, to see if it is not blocking?
There must be something in your config that is causing you this trouble....

Hi, I have even used a different laptop and disabled the security application, but still the same message: logon failed.

Good night

By the way, I have connected the two laptops and allowed sharing for various files and it just worked like it should. Is my conclusion right that there is something wrong with the M8er?

Aad,

You might consider to swap your Mede8er with another one by contacting your reseller, but most obvious reason is that there is some config issue on filesharing in your setup.

The only question is what exactly...

You might consider to call the mede8er support phone line, you can find the number here:

Samba from netbook Win 7 to mede8er no problem....not sure what happens....

I followed the advise to contact the Dutch support desk. We have made some changes in the settings of the laptop and the M8er (no auto collection of IP address, etc). Still no result. We agreed upon going on searching and exchanging information about other suggestions. The status now is that it still does not work, logon failed keeps coming up. I'll give a short list of what we did to try to make it work:
- we changed the auto setup of the IP address to manual setting of it, that did not solve it
- we have removed a line in the register of Windows to make IP6 work and accept the creation of a Home group, no result
- we made connection via LAN cable, logon still fails
- we have removed and added all user accounts and created them again, no result.
- we have connected two different laptops via sharing the folders and files, that works fine
- we connected the other laptop the M8er, same problem, logon fails.
- we checked the settings of the Tele2 modem, looks fine.

We are not sure if the dongel makes connection to the laptop, it does not show so we asked for a method how we can check if the dongel is visible to the laptop.

And I have requested the Dutch service desk to come and visit me and bring in a working configuration (laptop + M*er) because we ran out of options.

I too have experienced this problem of "Logon Failed". Thing is, my computer stores close on 3TB of Music, Videos, Moves and Pictures, and it's more effecient for me to share that amount media over the network than it is to store them on the Mede8er (I have removed the harddrive).

The last time I had the "Logon Failed" problem, I couldn't solve it, and ended up re-installing my entire Windows 7 OS to get it going again. Note that the Windows re-install later included also Windows Live Essentials Wave 3.

But then several months later, when I installed the Internet Explorer 9 BETA (which is fantastic, btw), and then later when I attempted to provide IE9 feedback, I had to install "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant 6.5", and this is when my Mede8er again started to give me the "Logon Failed" error. No wanting to go through the entire Windows re-load scenario again, I tracked what had recently changed on Windows before the problem started again. So I uninstalled "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant 6.5", and presto, I was again able to logon. Internet Explorer 9 is still on my computer.

Everything worked beautifully for a few weeks, until I installed the newly released Windows Live Essentials 2011. Guess what? Mede8er again fails to logon. I suspect that the "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant" component of WLE2011 is the culprit, because when I uninstalled WLE2011, and reverted back to the older WLE2009, then everything was back to normal. WLE2009 uses "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant 5", which does not appear to be a problem.

So I further continued my investigations, and installed Windows 7 into a virtual PC, which Mede8er was also able to access. After installing Windows Live Essentials 2011 into the virtual Windows 7, Mede8er lost access.

So, the "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant" component is the cause of the login failures. I figure with the Mede8er firmware v4 still in BETA, the developer may be able to investigate why it does not like Windows Live ID, and can find a solution.

Hi guys,

This is a real interesting topic, many thanks to Dzomlija to pin-point to the application that seems to give the trouble.
I did some Googling on: Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant file sharing:
http://www.google.nl/#sclient=psy&hl=nl&rlz=1R2RNTZ_nlNL388&q=Windows+Live+ID+Sign-in+Assistant+file+sharing&rlz=1R2RNTZ_nlNL388&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=4d6b11efc3cc1ab3

A lot of hits with this interesting ones:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/458637
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/9c6f1d74-f7f0-4503-94fa-0d79a5597527
And finally this one:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7577 where some patches to solve this problem are described.

I will raise this to the attention of Mede8er, so it can be passed to the devs to see if they can make some patch for the mede8er samba version that is used in Mede8er.

In the meantime when persons are running into this issue, and they are sure that filesharing is configured correctly:
- remove Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant 6.5 as a workaround from “Add/Remove Programs” in the Control Panel or remove Windows Live Essentials 2011 completely to check if that is causing the filesharing login issue.
