.......and we continue on   Undecided

So , I renamed external hard drive in question, an
unfortunatly, got all the same results.

I went and got yet another external hard drive, USB'd it
into same computer. Did all the customary share stuff
and got the same result. This damn username/password box
keeps popping up.

If I use the *UPnP ....... all works 100% perfect. [*1st time i'd ever used that]

I even went as far as re-verting back to some older FW's, but
that had no positive effect on what's going on. Have flashed
back to current FW......and i'm back at square one.

We do know, that the network has no issues with the "C" drive.
Any external storage media USB'd into this same computer
will be met with the pop-up box, by the Mede8er.

For now...... I can simply un-plug/re-plug HD directly to Mede8er.
It was so much better doing all that with a finger tip Smiley

the fault didnt come from M8R...

it is windows sharing service failure...something it just block.

do you use multiple accounts on your computer ? from security tab i see that you have a single account (but can be a mistake)
try to remember when happen this, when this strange behaviour start, and try to remember if you install something that can establish some rule in sharing service.
try to replace permissions entries and owner child objects of curent account .

one question :  try to create a folder in that hdd and share it , then check his sharing and permissions properties

I did most greatly appreciate your contributions.
I ended up doing a quickie clean install and all's back to normal.

No idea what the F*#k happened...but back to normal now.

The whole ordeal was just a minor bump in the road.

Take care.....and have a great weekend

Is it very possible to be a windows hot fix not very well instaled or antivirus engine failure.

This kind of things make to you look stupid.
And we are not...Wink

I see Acronis in your system. .. Try to create system image now, when is clean

Have used Acronis for MANY years...... it rocks !!
I install all the basic apps...then, do a image.
Makes even the worst case senario, a 15 minute fix.

but, what acronis do you use ?

acronis true image ?  .... this should work fine ..

my system has 12 Gb with all needed apps and image size is arround 6 Gb..

in a system failure all can be back to work in 5 min.

anyway i use true image boot up disk ....but acronis boot partition can be used as well

Been using true image  for  the last  6-7 years.

Every desktop / laptop in our home has a image
on an external hard drive. And every desktop / laptop
has their own boot disc.

Cheap insurance and good to know any computer
can be totally restored in minutes.
