Newest FW
wired connection

Have always successfully access'd my main computers hard drive by:

Network>workgroup>computers name>folder with all videos

Not one time has this failed to connect and play perfectly...till now

Once I drill to "folder with all videos" , a pop-up box >user name/password
ok & save/ok/cancel . I've NEVER seen this pop-up box before. And, i've
never usernamed -password'd anything.

Also, if I navigate to File Manager. A 4 pin code box pops up. There is a lock icon.
All the digits are empty. I've never pinned/passworded anything.

Ideas ??

normaly , acces to file manager is it blocked by  pin protection code by default , try to disable that from settings  (psw 0000) and let active only folder password... or none like i did...i dont like the way how password implementation was done.

it just keep asking for psw every time you delete a file ... this s...., is nasty. dont like that.

if your network path wasn't change, then try to restart the NAS (disable - enable from network setup). most of time work.

if you get message with no hdd found, try to restart m8r and unplug then start again. i f no luck.....try to reflash fw....it was working for me ....try telenet method as last variant ....because accesing FS can bring some unclosed holes in that FS.

That part worked perfectly !!!!!   THANKS !!!!

But no joy with access'ing PC's folder:

Re-set & re-started everything. NAS started & stopped numerous times.
All  file/folder names are intact and no changes
have been made. Re-flashed.  [i have internal HD]

I dunno.....stumped

I suggest to check your folder sharing settings on your PC and your firewall settings.

Maybe "all of the sudden" you received some windows update or firewall update over the internet from Microsoft and things now are setup different and blocking things....

Hey Maasbommel

Yeah, i've pretty much covered any firewall and/or permission possibilities.
This really is a strange one. The actual "share" function operates with the
Mede8er as it does with just about any other NWA'd device. Fairly proficient
with the whole "networking"  troubleshooting tree.
Even loaded up a mirror image of the C partition [45 days old] just to see if
indeed MS snuck in sumthing causing this to happen.
This really is......just about a simple as it comes to networking devices.
Why's this now failing???.....dunno

Really no big deal. I'll simply do it old school and drag my ext HD over to the
Mede8er and plug it in.

Fact is...... this is indeed too stupid proof to even have the ability to cause
a problem. Maybe that's the problem

I can't connect to my PC from the Mede8er unless I disable network protection in Norton.

I even configured Norton to allow access from the MAC address without any difference.
Norton does log the block in the the log, though.

Funny thing, because my Argosy HV359T connects without any issues.

connects without any issues.

And so did mine for 8 months.

I was able to connect today.....    C:\Users\Public\Videos

So this discounts allot of suspected problems. Thing is, I had
one particcular folder name and it worked from day one.     "then poof"....gone

So it's appearing just the folder's gone mad. I've fiddled with it. No luck.
I renamed it......went thru the share process = NADA

So, I just tried the deault C:\Users\Public\Videos and it worked
without having to make any additional folder/share settings =WEIRD

I think it is a problem with server from your computer machine.
What happen with your shared folder if you try to remove share and try to share again?
Verify in administrative tools, under service, the server status . Try to disable and enable again.

I think it is a problem with server

I was/am thinking that too.

If I make a new folder on the *****same external drive, share it , I still get that pop-up box.

I did exactly as you recomended, nuttin worked. sorry

*****Found out another thing too.....you cant delete the names of shared folders
on the Mede8er menu. Says deleated once checked with trash can....but still there
...NOT anything i'm worrying about.

I'll keep plugging along, but since all the hardware/sofware is in the same state as
it was when it worked....kinda hard to fix

Yes..... I dis-abled then re-enabled server.  [computer mgmt confirmsas per your instructions]
I un-shared the folder...then re-shared. Still getting user/pass pop-up

I added a new folder to ext HD, with new name , gave it share permissions, and get user/pass pop ups

So at this point, the only network drive the Mede8er can see [can see external too...but get user/pass box]......is the internal "C" drive

EDIT:  what is this user/pass box for this mede8er ??  I have NO user/passwords on my main computer...none.

that external drive is attached to M8R?  is it NTFS formated (if you say that work before, i presume it is, but just to be sure).

the C drive is internal drive from M8R or is a partition from your PC?

this is the reason why i ask stupid questions , just to figure out what is communication direction

you try to acces, from M8R,  a usb attached  hdd to your computer usb port?

All my local Mede8er paths all works 100%
internal HD,usb HD's,SD cards....etc.

My problem is ALL with my networked computer , and
it's external HD is the one busting my balls.
Like I said earlier....worked 8 months perfect.

from very first post

before anything else try to disable windows firewall and antivirus firewall ...even if they say that mede8er can pass ...isnt always like they say....

then try to connect...

if not work :  run chkdsk, then
RIGHT click on the drive, and select sharing and security, then click on the security tab.
if security tab isnt enabvled ,  then at sharing- give everyone full control.
