Hi All,

I have a quick question I was hoping you could help me with.

When I start a video file from my internal HDD the video starts playing but the sound does not kick in until 1-2 seconds after the video has started. When the sound starts it is perfectly in sych. Is this delay for the sound to start a common thing or is this a fault?

The HDD is a new 2TB Samsung FG3 EG which was formatted by the mede8er and it is connected directly to the TV (HDMI Downmix (2 Channel) selected).

Thanks for your advice

Can it be that your TV is switching to HDMI 1080p and that is causing the delay?

So does this also happen when you play an SD movie (like DVD Video)?

like Maasbommel say, could be the hdmi switcher or audio decoder from your tv....this is not a issue . not from mede8er and not from your tv.

another thing could be when play 23.976 fps videos , in that case the delay is done by mede8er and also by  your tv casue by input suource refresh detected by your tv.
also this is not a issue

Thanks to both of you for your quick responses.

On further testing, I don't think the cause surrounds the TV HDMI switching, as I get the same effect of video playback starting a couple of seconds before the audio kicks in in other situations such as time skipping within a video file, or when i fast forward to 4* speed or more then press play again. In both these situations the TV HDMI mode should already be set.

It could indeed be an audio decoder issue. The TV is a Sony 40v3000. Not sure if you have any knowledge on this side.

Do you happen to know if there is anything that can be done so audio kicks in at same time as the video or not resolvable? Though it's not a major issue, just glad to know it's the player / TV combination and not a fault.

Thanks again.

Just for test

Use analog audio to your tv and if is the same then it is M8R audio decoder fault or delay - this is not necessary a fault, can be slow response .
This is only half of problem Grin

Now you should use Hdmi audio with downmix audio setting, so this way you exclude the tv decoder - but not the internal switch.
 Try to compare the results...

This is not very simple like i write here . It will depend more by the audio codec from your movie, by the Hdmi communication protocol betwen your tv and M8R, it is very possible to see another sony tv set that works fine. This can vary from model to model from same brand and from brand to brand also. Even if two products are from same brand is is not necessary to use same codes in their fw.

It is premature to pronunce without a test... Even if those tests are handmade..;-)
