Hi guys,

I just bought a new Mede8er with firmware 3.0.4 today.  I followed the quickstart manual to connect to TV...  but unable to detect usb flashdrive and usb external harddisk.  Seems like no power coming out of Mede8er since there is no light blinking on either flashdrive or external harddisk.  From the menu, there is no usb device - empty media list.

Did I bought a faulty Mede8er?  How to verify...

Thanks in advanced!

Regards.

Some checks:
Are you using the usb extendion cable that comes with the mede8er? Try without it.
Are you using the 2 lower flat usb ports and not the square one?

If so and your usb flash disk has a led and it is not flashing, then it gets no power, so you have a defective unit. -> exchange for a good one at your reseller where you bought it.

Hi Maasbommel,

Thanks for quick response.

I didn't use that usb extension cable.  For external HDD, I used the usb Y-cable that comes with HDD enclosure.  For flashdrive, I connect directly to the usb port.

Yes, I use the 2 flat usb ports.

Yup, both external HDD & flashdrive are not flashing.  I will go and replace this defective unit today.

Thanks Bro!

I had the same issue.

If you use a HDD without an external power supply, you need both USB slots of the mede8er; just to supply the HDD with enough power.

I bought a USB connector at dealextreme.com with 2 USB plugs.
The small one in the HDD and the other 2 in the mede8er. Works like a charm now.

Same goes for my Wii ...

Success.

He also has issue with his flashdrives so suspect hw issue

Or he must have some strange format on his flashdrive (multiple partitions as some have...)

Just for the record: my external USB-powered hard disk (Freecom, 2.5 inch, 250 GB) works fine when I connect it to my Mede8er. I guess the amount of power these hard disks require can differ between brands and models.

I managed to swap the defective Mede8er with a working one.

Actually, I did a little bit more test just before I went back to the shop.  I booted up Mede8er without any USB drive attached and it started successfully to get into the main menu.  As soon as I connect USB external harddisk, the TV lost HDMI signal as if no device connected.  That is much easier to explain to the shop.  I asked him to test exactly like I did, and he remarked possible short-circuit between HDMI & USB ports.  First time ever happened, he said.

I also brought my harddisk along for him to test using the new mede8er.  Phew!  It works... :-)

Feeling guilty since he didn't test Mede8er before I bought, he offered me an AC Ryan WiFi dongle at a discount (Mede8er WiFi dongle is out of stock).

Glad that the trouble is over now.  Thanks all for your valuable input.

Regards.
