Hi,

I'm finding I'm having to restart the mede8er quite often due to smb failures.

This happens whent he following occurs:

- Delete a file
- Browse the device whilst a file transfer is taking place
- Rename a file

Any ideas?

Hi,

Latest version of Firmware, 3.0.4? (only got it about 2 weeks ago and updated it straight away)

HDD is a 2TB WD drive.

Yes, formatted by the Mede8er.

As a side note, I get a reliable 5MB/s transfer rate from Windows 7 when simply dragging and dropping.

It just seems to hate tampering with what is already on the HDD

I suggest to install a file copy handler like TeraCopy
You can find it here:
http://www.codesector.com/teracopy.php

This will prevent 'choking' the copy process and getting filesystem problems.

Also suggest to check your internal mede8er disk ntfs filesystem by connecting it by usb cable to your PC and run chkdsk /f on it. You might have filesystem probems caused by aborted copy actions over the network.

Hi thanks for the suggestions.
Due to another problem I've already had to check the filesystem before.

When I delete a file though it then drops off the network.
I can't believe that this is due to 'choking' when all I'm doing is right clicking and deleting a file.
(When doing nothing else with the device)

Does no one else have this problem?
I really don't like the idea of having to uncable the unit from my TV and plug it into my PC everytime it drops like this.

When does it happen?

When deleting a file over the network (from your PC over samba link to your mede8er disk) or when deleting a file from the Mede8er Gui?
Same question for renaming, by Gui or over the network?

Over the network.
Everytime.

Not yet fully read the manual so don't even know how to delete files via the gui yet...

I suggest to connect by usb and run chkdsk /f.

After that use TeraCopy.
My guess is you will not see that problem after that anymore.

I'll take that on advisement, but seriously...
Is the NAS / SMB support so bad that it is picky about file copies and deletions?

Is this a set of known issues that are being worked on?

The current 3.0.4 samba implementation seems to be not as stable as on previous 2.0.2 version, seen the responses on the forum.
I am sure it will be better on the next firmware....

Regarding not using a file copy manager like teracopy:
When using e.g.windows explorer and using multiple copy actions (multiple drag/drops running at the same time), the experience is that this can cause the connection to fail resulting in half copied files and filesystem issues.

Teracopy will make sure only 1 copy action is running at the same time.

Personally I use TeraCopy a long time already and never had any issues on copy or deleting files.
