Hi Voodoo,
This post is regarding not able to connect from PC to Mede8er internal disk after starting the Mede8er, not the other way around. The problem regarding not able to connect from Mede8er to PC is another problem.
Which problem to you have? If it is not able to connect from Mede8er to PC: - verify your PC configuration as described in the Mede8er Beginners Guide en be sure you have no firewall software blocking things.

Hi Soudant,
Toggle NAS from on to off and to on, will do the same as the trick using login by telnet and then start samba from the telnet prompt.
I expect Samba is crashing (or not starting) somehow when you come from standby on your mede8er. You can verify this by login in to your mede8er by telnet and then use the following command: ps -ef
It should show that the samba process is running:
Something like this: 437 root 1576 S N /tmp/package/samba/sbin/smbd -D 450 root 1564 S N /tmp/package/samba/sbin/smbd -D
If not, then that is the root cause.
The only question then is still: Why is samba process not starting in your case and also on some others, while it is starting for the most of us....
Could be related to some specific setup in your setup that we are overlooking..
I see that your are using a wired connection, DHCP. Is there anything connected to the usb ports? An external disk, a wifi usb adaptor, a usb stick? Is there a memory card in the memory slot? When you start up your Mede8er, is your TV already on and have you switched it to the HDMI port?
And to all the others that are placing post in this thread with the remark: me too.... Please try to supply details about your setup and config, as detailed as possible. Without these details you are not really contributing to find the root cause of this.

Hi Maasbommel,
1. I have no USB devices connected. 2. I have no memory card connected. 3. In most cases tv is on when booting mede8er and yes I have set vid signal to HDMI auto. I have tried changing this to a fixed format but that does not make any difference. 4. I have connected amplifier optically.
Because I downgraded to FW 2.02 yesterday I was not able to check the samba processes at once. I will upgrade to 3.04 agian and check.

Hi Soundant,
I understand you use the Audio SPDIF setting.
When you upgraded to 3.0.4 can you also try to put on HDMI passthrough as a test?? Just as a test to see if NAS works when coming from standby?
I am just looking for difference in settings as the root cause of this issue.

Having had similar issues in the past I just thought I'd add my experiences:-
- found it useful to turn off any firewall when setting up access from PC to Mede8er in the first instance - when switching Mede8er on, it takes time (20 seconds or so) for NAS function to start - it then takes a bit longer for the PC to see the Mede8er on the network. open Explorer, browse to Network and try refreshing, Mede8er should pop-up eventually - however, if Mede8er is left on, but not used, it does disappear from the network (not visible from PC); in this case switch the Mede8er off/on, or just toggle the NAS function off/on and all will be okay

I have the exact same problem, cant access the mede8er from my p.c. without going into the network settings on the mede8er and toggling the NAS on/off. This problem only appeared when upgraded to 3.04. My settings are :
HDMI - passthrough
Network - manual with fixed ip adress
Nothing attached to the USB ports or in the SD slot
another strange thing happened yesterday. I had a hard-drive attached to my p.c. yesterday that I was copying some photo's to. I had'nt enabled file sharing on it or added it to the network but when I turned on my mede8er last night it had picked it up in the media library with the rest of my share folders. the only thing was I had disconnected that hard drive a couple of hours previously! I tried to delete it from the file menu but the mede8er froze and I had to unplug the power cable to re-boot. Also, and I dont know if this is going to sound stupid, but does it makes a difference with the NAS if the tv is on? I couldn't access the mede8er this morning from the p.c , even though I had run down the stairs a couple of times and switched the NAS on/off, but each time I switched the tv off. I eventually left the tv on and I got access straight away!

Domino, while these methods work ok, it still doesn't get away from the fact this is a new problem with the new firmware - NAS worked fine with the last release.

Hi Maasbommel,
I have been HDMI passthrough during all the scenario's I have executed. I only switch to Audio SPDIF whenever I want to use amp for audio.
Is it usefull to execute the test swtching hdmi passtrough to SPDIF?

Hi leftygt,
That is exactly my point. Up an untill FW 2.02 there has been not a single problem for me. But from 3.00 NAS is giving trouble.
I know how to fix it temporarily, but I would like to know the cause.
Regards

I know how to fix it temporarily, but I would like to know the cause We can only come to a solution when we know what is the root cause of this. Just some have this kind of issue, not all. We need to find out what is different in your setup to come to a root cause, be able to reproduce then to be able to fix.... That's why I asked to supply as much details as possible to all having this issue, in stead of the statement we see of some: me too.... We are stuck somehow to find the root cause of this, and without details supplied by the ones having this kind of issue we can only hope that some future change roll to new firmware will solve it if we don't find the real root cause of this... regards, Maasbommel

Hi Maasbommel,
I will upgrade to FW 3.04 this evening. Should I restore default setting before upgrading Fw or after.
- I will check if samba processes are running when the problem occurs. - I will check wether the audio setting have any influence. I have been using HDMI passthrough all the time.
I think I checked most of the things you have asked.
Any other things I can check?
Regards

The main difference for me seems to be something to do with the HDMI switch, before I never needed to have the tv on, in fact I never even needed the home theatre system on (the mede8er is connected to the tv through this via HDMI) - just the mede8er to be switched on and I could pick it up on the p.c. Maybe this would be the place to start looking?

Hi Soudant,
Can you also verify is nas works when coming of standby: - put first your TV on and put it on mede8er HDMI channel - after that start mede8er with remote from standby - what the screen and wait for the NAS on message appear on the screen and go away. - when it is gone, please check if you can connect from your PC to your Mede8er internal disk

Maasbommel, I can tell you that this morning I did just as you said, but when I got the message on the screen that the NAS was on, I switched off the tv. I tried then to connect to the mede8er through the p.c. but couldn't do it

Hi leftygt,
For further narrowing to a possible root cause can you confirm and retry the following: - put first your TV on and put it on mede8er HDMI channel - after that start mede8er with remote from standby - what the screen and wait for the NAS on message appear on the screen and go away. - when it is gone, please check if you can connect from your PC to your Mede8er internal disk > able to connect?
Then switch off TV and again verify several times with some time between (minutes/hours?) > able to connect?
And let's see what the response is from Soudant if he sees the same.
regards, Maasbommel
