Hi There

I have looked everywhere in forum and cannot find how to protect a folder from access. I have turned on the folder protection in setup but now how do i actually protect an individual folder?

Hi Kendall,

When you have the cursor on a folder, press the Menu button on your remote.
You will see several icons. The icon with the lock will protect the folder with a pin code.

I'm too struggling with this. Like the O/P, I have password protection enabled via the misc menu. When pressing remote 'menu' on a highlighted folder, I only see three icons, return, delete and a/b (name editor). What am I missing?

Hi Bernado,

Did you also set Folder Protection option under setup to on?
Otherwise you will not see the lock icon.

Oh dear, Maasbommel you were right. Can't believe I missed that! Hopefully any future posts I make won't be quite so dum.
Thanks again

For the record, in case anyone else happens to come upon this thread with related questions, the folder in question that you wish to 'restrict' also needs to have 'write' permissions - this refers mainly to network folders, USB drives with write protection switches, and possibly NTFS drives with limited permissions.
The 'restriction' functionality depends on whether or not a '.folder.locked' file can be written to the folder you wish to restrict.
Such a '.folder.locked' file can be manually created or copied to a folder using a PC if you wish to restrict access to that folder from the Mede8er.

Kindly note too that this should not be considered an absolute folder 'protection' feature per se - it merely offers basic functionality to restrict access to a folder via the Mede8er interface - true folder 'protection' on a PC network would involve fairly good network permissions knowledge which may extend beyond the scope of this forum.

If you have some really 'sensitive' content that you may not want the kids to view then it is perhaps it would be a good idea to keep that content on a USB drive that is securely locked away... Never underestimate the capabilities of a child when it comes to bypassing restrictive measures.
