Had some subtitle issues with my recently purchased MED500X.

It had no HD installed so yesterday i bought one. (Used an external drive till then)

HD in, ready for a firmware upgrade.

Old firmware was 1.2.1, the new one i would be 2.1.0..

I followed all the instructions on this forum.

USB-stick with both files in the MED.
Unplugged the power. Then plugged it in again.
Pushed the power-button for 10 seconds.
Firmware started upgrading as aspected.
Looked good untill it stopped at proximmely 40 %.......

Then I waited for more then one hour but nothing changed anymore.
The power-button did not respond, so i unplugged the power cord.
A short message appeared for 2-3 seconds, then the Med froze....

What can i do to make it work again ?

Tried already without HD; no succes ...

did you try this:

Quote
Emergency Installation Procedure

 - Download the latest Firmware from the Mede8er website;
 - Unzip the file and you will find two files ie install.img and logo_pal_bmp;
 - Copy both these files to the root directory of a Flash Drive;
 - Plug the flash drive into the Mede8er;
 - Disconnect the power jack at the rear of the Mede8er then plug it back in;
 - Now press the on/off button and keep it pressed in for 10 seconds and then release;
 - The LED on the from fascia of the Mede8er with flash red-blue and you will get a progress bar on your TV display;
   (some TV's will not display this)
 - Wait until the Mede8er re boots itself +/- 90 sec;
 - Your Mede8er is now be updated;
 - Re-boot once by pulling power and use as normal;
xxxx WARNING - DO NOT REMOVE POWER DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS xxxxx

You have probably one of the following issues causing you this trouble:
1.  using an usb stick that has a corrupted format -> reformat your usb stick and use a full format and not a quick format (FAT32 or NTFS)
2. a corrupted image, redownload, unrar again an put again on your stick to retry
3. stick not put in far enough, contact problem on usb -> check, try other usb port, try other stick

I used a "FAT"- formated USB-stick.

Will try again after i format the stick  "FAT32".

Tried 2 different downloads to be sure the downloads weren't corrupted.
Still possible, but unlikely.

Tonight i'll try again, thnx so far !

@ Tundel; i followed instructions as given. Thnx 2 you anyway for responding !

...to format the USB pendrive, there is an utility HP USB disk storage format tool  that you can download here:

When using this tool be sure not to make it bootable, otherwise that can cause problems loading the firmware.

is it better to do full format  for pen drive.
also when download the fw , try to disable the heuristic scan from antivirus at archive type, or disable antivir and keep firewall active and save it to a lees fragmented hdd.
after download the fw archive try to extract directly to usb pen drive.

Tried 2 different sticks.
(First i thought that was the problem)

Today i'll take it back to the store. (Mediamarkt)

This is a dead end road.

Like all firmware-update that fail this is whithout the proper technical knowhow / back-up a problem that cannot be solved bij customers. The bios needs to be flashed / replaced with special tooling.
I have to leave it up to the experts.

Anyway, THNX for all help !

It's six weeks later now...

I took the (dead) player back 2 "MediaMarkt" where i purchased it about 10 weeks ago.

In approximately 3 weeks "the problem would be fixed".

I waited 5 weeks before returning to the store and then they told me that the problem "could not be fixed".

They gave me a brandnew one and apologized that they hadn'd notified me in time.

@Home I found out that the new player had firmware 2.1.

Firmware 3.04 is the latest at this moment so i upgraded it, this time whitout any problems.

Problem solved. Thanx for all replies.

ANYWAY; UPGRADING CAN GO WRONG !!!!!!

That was a sad introduction to the mede8er-experience. I hope it will work out better from now on and that you can enjoy some really good movies now!  Smiley

For further enhancing of the mede8er-experience just add popcorn or waffles!  Grin

Kind regards

We take flashing firmware etc for granted. As you say problems do happen. Gigabyte created Dual Bios motherboards for that reason. I bet only a minorty ever get into a position that they benefit from two bios's and these unlucky users are very grateful!
