No power
«
on:
April 27, 2010, 09:23:52 am »
As of this morning I cannot power up my mede8er. If I pull out the plug and plug it in and try and switch it on, the blue power light flashes and then nothing.
Is my power supply gone or is the unit toast?
Cheers

From your description it could simply be the display that is not showing up - press the TVSYS button on the remote twice in a row with 5 second intervals a few times to check if the TV display was changed.
This will toggle the TV output settings.
Sometimes my fat fingers change the TV output by pressing TVSYS instead of the Power button.
I hope it is as simple as that for your sake...
Further than that try using the Yellow Composite output cables to get a display on-screen for troubleshooting purposes.

I will try that - thanks
Just to clarify, the blue light comes on and then goes off - it doesn't stay on which tells me it could be a power problem.

If the tip of Insomniac is not solving your problem, I suggest to open your mede8er and remove power of your internal disk and also the sata cable.
Then check if the problems is gone.
If not, last resort is to reload firmware with FW recovery mode.
If that doesn't solve it, go back to your reseller to get it repaired under warranty.

I have somewhat the same problem. Med8er power LED flashes, for a second, fans go on for a second, don't getting any image, then the Med8er completely powers down.
After some time when I re-connect the power supply, the LED stays on a couple of seconds longer, but still no image.
Going to measure the power supply, maybe it's broken...
/Checked the power supply, seems to be OK, output is 12v.
When I hold the power button, the Med8er stays on, butt no image on screen, and no bootloader, or loader to flash firmware...
When I release the power button, the Med8eer immediately powers off.
Anyone has a suggestion what could be the problem?

For first try to use composite cable and eventualy reflash fw.
Also remove hdd...
About power supply try to measure the power with a ampermeter ... 12v can be ok when is no load
It should go over 5-6 amp's

Took the Mede8er back to the shop, after some days receiver a brand new one... Think it's FUBAR, but anyway, good service. Would be happy with a "second-hand" replaced or repaired one, but this is also OK with me.
