Product & firmware version: Mede8er MED500X f/w v2.02
Audio: HDMI > Grundig 32" LCD
Audio setting: Night mode OFF
Video: HDMI output > Grundig 32" LCD
Video setting: 720p 50Hz,24Hz ON,16:9
Media Source: Wired Network > Windows 7 64-Bit SMB shares, Promise NS4300 NAS, Twonky UPNP Server, PS3-Media Server UPNP Server
--------------------------

I am watiching DIVx or MKV based files, the fast forward seems to be showing 4x 8x 16x 32x but it looks like only 4x is the fastest working speed.  The movies are palyed from a Win7 share or a Promise NAS share. But with same result, also tried with standard resolution and hd res.

I have the same problem. Neither DIVX/XVID nor MKV files can be fastforwarded at a decent speed. I doubt that even 4x is workling. It looks more like 1,5x is the fastest working speed. I stopped using fast forwarding to jump into a movie and press the "plus 10s button" repeatedly instead.

Yes - same here. Fast forward is very slow.

This is tested with any of my mkv files - say over 4gb

I have no other formats/sizes to try.

Cheers

I have created a test video to test this.

The video contains different timer counters for 1x, 1.5x, 2x, etc. speed so if you play it back fast forwarding, you can see the corresponding timer stepping once a second.

I tried with divx7 (~120MB) and wmv9 (~350MB) format. In wmv9, everything is fine, even 32x fast forwarding is smooth. For the divx, the max speed seems to be somewhere about 4x, regardless of the selected ff speed (sometimes jumps seconds away). It does not happen all the time, but usually happens if you speed the playback up step by step (like press >>, wait a few secs, press >> again, wait again, etc., until you reach 32x speed).

... and, if I let the player to run 32x speed to the end of the divx, Mede8er crashes.

Msg me if you need the files.

i observed that, too.  and not only with divx7, with xvid is happen the same.
if let player on FF at 8x , 16x or 32x seems to make jumps trough video and after a while just jumps out from video to menu.

Mine will not ff faster that 2x. it is really painfull as the jump to last possition and goto functions dont work either to get to the last spot in a movie. i havent watched the end of most movies as it is too much effort to get there now.

Hi seanmo, you posted something like this in tips& tricks section.

you say that cant jump trough video (instant jump, go to function doesnt work?)? and you need to FF?
what firmware version do you use? do you have a  Hdd inside of your mede8er and also formated from mede8er menu?

try to reflash firmware . unplug med8er from power source, insert usb stick with the right  firmware v2.02 , connect mede8er back to power source and press power button for 10 sec. after reflash proces is complete mede8er will restart, restart it again by you and make your settings. after that you must format your hdd from mede8er menu.
good luck!

Is this a problem with all sorts of different media formats or only one set of similarly-encoded files?

I have tried the reflash of latest firmware 2.02 (Jan ver) it happens with all AVI formats and basically anything i play on the unit. I do not have a hdd in the unit and use my pc to stream. i did notice that before i upgraded the firmware it use to work fine. I have tried the emergency firmware upgrade path and it still doesnt work. where can i find firmware version on the unit?

If you want to verify if downgrading to initial version (1.2.1 probably came with the unit) solves this, you can download it here:

if so , please remain at v1.2.2a fw and follow Maasbommel link.
for v2.0.2 please upgrade your unit with a internal hdd, if you dont have a bigger one for enough media supporting , use a very small one for mede8er partitions and also for a prorper work.

Tested by playing back my timetest.divx from local HDD.
Results of 5 runs: maximum ff speed is about 4x, no crash at the end of file (at least that's different from the network playback).

Local HDD: Maxtor 6Y080M0 (80GB), Firmware: V2.02
