When I set the unit to 1080p 50hz or 1080p 60hz, the menu is shaky.
When playing movies on this resolution, all is fine mostly, but the screen will flicker and go blank every now and then.  This applies to any content played when the unit is set for 1080p output.
I've tried changing the cable and different HDMI inputs.
My HTPC and Xbox 360 both display perfectly in 1080p............

Hi Sarje

Pls let us know what brand and model TV you are experiencing the flickering on. Is the HDMI cable plugged directly into the TV ?

Do you keep changing the HDMI to match the refresh rate of each  video?
60hz for 29fps, 50hz for 25fps etc.

That's your answer. 24hz isn't supported with 720p mode. There are lot's of posts about stuttering with 24hz video. That's becuase there are two versions, True film, and NTSC film. I think realtek only support True Film 24hz.

It would appear that when 720p is selected it uses the same teqnique used with NTSC DVD and generates 29hz without re-sampling. It should do the same at 1080p for NTSC Film if it can only output true 24hz at 24p . Instead it sounds like it's re-sampling rather than using pull-down(up).

use 24 hz mode only for 23.976 fps,  it is for accelerate 23.976 fps to  real 24 fps like the original movie is.
are more reasons why this method isn't 100% ok and is related by video content and packaging methods.
with a good screen , who can compensate motion by pull-down methods , all should be ok.
personally i dont use 720p , so i dont know precisisely how things work with that resolution, because resampling should give different effects.

normaly 24 hz mode is in auto mode and should detect 23.976 fps videos

Do you happen to have a 24p blu-ray player you can test your TV with? Many TV's are not 24hz complient. They take 24hz and re-sample it to 50 or 60hz. You need a set which explicitly states it has a 24hz display mode, not just that it can connect to  a 24p source.

My problem is still apparent.  I've tried different mede8er units, all with the same result.  Different firmware revisions have caused either more or less flickering.  My flickering is even present on the menus of the unit when set to 1080p.
I've got a PS3 connected exactly the same way, no flickering whatsoever.
The Mede8er looks great at 720p, but the PS3 looks WAY better outputting at 1080p.
It's not a stutter problem - it's like the picture is 'shaky' and unstable.
